Define Graphic Design
What is graphic design?
This question does not possess a definitive answer. The definition of graphic design is a subjective one—which is why Define Graphic Design is asking designers from around the world for their own definitions of the term.
Merriam-Webster defines “graphic design” as:
The art or profession of using design elements (as typography and images) to convey information or create an effect.1
The preceding definition is spiritless and boring. Graphic design is so much more than that, which is why I want to know how you would define it based on your personal experience as a designer.
An archive of definitions, contributed from experienced and influential designers around the world, could become a valuable source of inspiration.

There are no length requirements. Your definition can be one sentence, one paragraph, or one thousand words; it doesn't matter.
Optional: Along with your definition, I'd love to know what designer you would like to see contribute to this project. Define Graphic Design will surely become even more interesting as the archive of definitions grows.
When you are ready to contribute, please email your definition (along with the name of the person you'd like to see contribute) using the link below.
